Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the open spaces within your spine, which causes pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. In most cases, the narrowing of the spine associated with stenosis compresses the nerve root, which can cause pain along the back of the leg. It occurs most often in the lower back and the neck.

Most people develop it as part of their degenerative cascade. While others may not feel the signs or symptoms, others do experience pain, tingling, numbness, muscle weakness and abnormal bowel movement and problems with bladder function.
